What affects concrete cost?

Concrete estimates are more than square footage. The final price reflects what must be removed, how the site can be reached, what the slab will support, and what it takes to prepare and finish the work correctly.

Size and concrete volume

Length, width, thickness, footers, thickened edges, and steps determine how much concrete the project requires.

Removal and disposal

Existing concrete, pavers, decking, roots, or unsuitable material may need to be broken out, hauled away, and replaced with a prepared base.

Access and placement

Direct truck access is different from a narrow gate or backyard route. Wheelbarrow labor, equipment limits, or a concrete pump can change placement cost.

Base preparation

Excavation depth, soil conditions, fill, compaction, and grade corrections affect the work below the finished surface.

Thickness and reinforcement

A walkway, vehicle pad, shed foundation, and screen-enclosure footer do different jobs. Intended use helps determine slab thickness and reinforcement needs.

Shape and finish details

Curves, steps, tight transitions, borders, control joints, exposed edges, and specialty finishes require more forming and hand work than a simple rectangle.

Drainage and elevation

Standing water, nearby doors, existing slabs, downspouts, and changes in grade may require additional shaping or preparation.

Mobilization and project size

Every pour requires scheduling, equipment, delivery, setup, cleanup, and travel. Small projects can carry a higher cost per square foot than larger open pours.

Site-specific requirements

Permits, engineering, utility conflicts, enclosure plans, HOA requirements, or unusual structural conditions can affect the final scope.

Why Brookstone does not post a one-price-fits-all square-foot rate: two projects with the same surface area can require very different removal, access, preparation, reinforcement, and drainage work. A site-specific estimate is clearer and more honest.
